Edson Hato is an award-winning people executive and the founder and owner of LikeMinds Ltd., a zero-start (executive) board and people advisory company. Edson’s ultimate goal is to support the rehumanization of our institutions and the corporate world in general. He is known for creating high impact People roadmaps and rapid business transformation that support purpose driven mindsets and transformational change in the areas of business partnering talent, leadership & organizational development, performance, diversity, inclusion and culture.
Additionally, Edson is a keynote speaker, moderator, strategic people advisor and coach. Priority topics in his work are strategy, talent, leadership, performance, diversity, equity & inclusion and organizational development. Edson is also an advisory board member of the VU University Law faculty Cultural Diversity Council and Charmain of the Advisory Board of ‘Corporate Queer’, a network organization for LGBT+ professionals who collectively question and challenge the heteronorm in the business world. Edson never stops expanding his horizons, as he is also the Talent Performance Coach for the quantum computing start-up QuandCo.
EDUCATION AND CAREER
After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in International Marketing and Commercial Studies at the HEAO Limburg (Sittard, The Netherlands), Edson completed a dual master’s degree: a Master of Arts in International Economics at Radboud University (Nijmegen, The Netherlands) and a Master of Business Administration in International Business and Marketing at Hofstra University (New York, USA). Currently, Edson is working towards a Ph.D. at the VU Amsterdam Business Research Institute on the subject of critical leader behaviors that are needed for transformation.
Edson started his career in 1989 in professional services at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He was Senior Vice President Human Resources at AstraZeneca Plc, UBS AG, Philip Morris International SA and ING Group NV. More recently, Edson was Senior Vice President Talent at ABN AMRO Bank NV in Amsterdam. In his multiple roles, he has been responsible for attracting, engaging, connecting and developing, on- and offboarding (executive) leaders and talents.
Edson speaks fluent English, Dutch, Spanish, French and Papiamentu. He credits his success to a lifelong determination and the ability to adopt and adapt to the many different cultures in which he has interacted, worked and lived.
He is perceived as a courageous people executive with the ability to deliver high impact change with passion and vision. Edson has global business expertise in matrixed organizations, start-ups and scale-ups across five business sectors and four regions.
Throughout his life, Edson has taken the necessary risks and chosen to live his life by incorporating constant and high levels of change intensity. He discovered a love for the tension, disruption and magic that comes with taking risks and enabling transformation. He uses all his past and present learnings to help organizations and individuals to not only deal with transformation, but also to thrive to the best of their abilities in the midst of change. He considers this his true life purpose. Outside of work, Edson enjoys CrossFit, yoga and meditation.
